The Leo New Moon arrives on Sunday, August 4 at 7:13 a.m. EDT. At 12 degrees of this fixed Fire Sign, we set intentions now for creativity, self expression, romance, entertainments, children, sports and investments. This 23-minute podcast gives you an interpretation of the chart for this Lunar Event.

Venus enters Virgo on Sunday and Mercury retrogrades in 4 degrees of Virgo at 12:56 a.m. EDT on Sunday morning. The 29-minute podcast for the Weekly Astrology Forecast has this information first for easy access as the events draw closer. It is followed, as usual, by the Daily Planetary Energy forecast.

This week, the Cross-Quarter Celtic Festival of Lughnasadh, also called Lammas and Gwyl Awst, arrives. It is the First Harvest Festival of a most important crop: the Grains. In this Ancestral agricultural calendar it is also considered the time of summer's end, while autumn begins. It is hard for us to imagine this, but for Ancestors depending on the land working to produce their sustenance, during the time between August 1st (the calendar version of the holiday) and the Equinox in Fall we have two of the three major harvests of crops that can be preserved to help make it through the winter (along with grains, the apples, nuts, squash. The Last Harvest is November 1st...the Hops and the Grapes. Now it is Winter as the harvests are over and we go into the darkest time of the year. Life is growing underground.

The actual cross quarter is midway between the Midsummer Solstice and the Libra Equinox. That distance holds 90 degrees of the 360 circle, and divided by 2 = 45 degrees. From zero Cancer at Midsummer, to 0 Libra at Equinox we arrive at the midpoint of 15 degrees of Leo. This day will fluctuate a bit and in 2024 is it between the 7th and 8th of August. If you are inclined to do ceremony or hold festivities for this occasion, you can do so from August 1st to August 8th. Another time people do ceremony is the Full Moon closest to this midpoint, but this year, we have the New Moon instead.

8/8 is also the peak of the "Lion's Gate Portal" that begins on July 26th and goes to August 12th. We can expand consciousness and achieve spiritual growth when we pass through the gates of all the fixed signs: 15 degrees of Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus are the other three.
